1. Node-lock
- A license tied to a specific device, it may operate offline after activation without requiring an internet connection. To use EMTP® on a different device, a procedure to untie the license from the initial device must be followed. This procedure takes 72 hours to be completed and requires an active maintenance contract ; otherwise, additional fees apply.
2. Floating
- Also known as concurrent, this type allows several users or devices to access a license within a pool simultaneously if the license permits multiple users. Within the Floating category, three license types exist:
- Cloud
- Floating Cloud
- Network
- Cloud and Floating Cloud licenses operate similarly, requiring an internet connection. A license pool is established with a Concurrency Limit, determining the maximum number of simultaneous users. For instance, a license with a Concurrency Limit of 3 has three tokens available, allowing three simultaneous users. The license price depends on this Concurrency Limit.
- For a Cloud license, once a user activates EMTP®, one token is assigned to this user and is only released when the user presses the release button in the EMTP® Activation Utility on their device. Before that, the token is unavailable for other users, even if the user turns off their device. The main advantage is to guarantee the availability of the license for the user.
- For Floating Cloud licenses, the token access is the same, except that the token is automatically released when EMTP® and its auxiliary programs (ScopeView, import tools, etc.) are closed. At this point, the token becomes available to other users. When EMTP® is started again, the EMTP® Activation Utility will attempt to access a token. If one is available, EMTP® starts normally; if none is available, EMTP® cannot start.
- For Cloud licenses, EMTP® may operate several days without an internet connection. For Floating Cloud, the internet connection must be maintained.
- At any moment, a user may be disconnected by the EMTP support team, if required.
- Network license is an on-premises Floating license system. A License Manager is installed on a server and accessible to users via the local network. Tokens are accessed and released in the same way as Floating Cloud licenses. After activating the License Manager on the server, no internet connection is required. Licenses may be accessed via VPN when a device is not on-premise. The setup is a bit more complicated, and the cost is higher than other license types.
- EMTP® usage on virtual machines is not allowed, unless otherwise agreed upon with the sales team.
Activation methods
- Licenses can be activated using one of these methods:
- User: Once the license is created, the license manager may add users to its LicenseSpring account. Each user has an email address and a password they use to activate their license.
- Key: When the license is issued, a 16-digit key is provided. This key activates EMTP by itself. Users cannot change it. Caution must be exercised not to show the key to tier persons.
