Overview
In collaboration with the Department of Electrical Engineering at the University of Tabuk, Saudi Arabia, our EMTP® team is excited to offer a free online workshop, focused on EMTP® simulations. Delivered entirely in Arabic, this workshop provides participants with both hands-on experience and theoretical insights into the simulation of power system transients.
This workshop covers the following topics:
Day 1
- Introduction to EMTP®
- Theoretical backgrounds on power systems and transients, analysis methods
- Exploring a range of issues:
- Lightning, Switching Operations
- Temporary Overvoltages
- Electromechanical Transients
- Numerical methods for simulation of transients
- EMTP® case study on "Protection of Microgrids" by Dr. Husam Samkari
- Building basic test cases
Day 2
- Transmission line models: from basic to advanced
- Load-Flow and Steady-State solutions of EMTP®
- IBR modeling and simulations
- Integration of Wind Parks and Photovoltaic Parks into power grids
- Available generic models
- Initialization from load-flow solution
- Manufacturer models
Audience
This course is intended for engineers, researchers, operators and maintenance personnel who use simulation software in general. It provides up-to-date technical expertise on renewable energy integration projects.
Training structure
Language: Arabic
The duration is 2 days: October 14-15, 2024
The training starts at 13:00 h to 15:00 h (Saudi Arabia Time).
Computer and temporary EMTP® license
Each participant will have to bring a personal computer. EMTP® temporary licenses will be provided for the duration of the course.
Instructor
Amro Alsabbagh (Senior Member, IEEE) received his B.S. and M.S. degrees in automatic control and computer engineering from Al-Baath University, Syria, and a Ph.D. in control science and engineering from the University of Michigan-Shanghai Jiao Tong University Joint Institute, Shanghai, China.
He is currently an EMTP® Research and Development Engineer at PGSTech. His current work focuses on developing the EMTP® solver, co-simulation methods, and analysis of power system transients.
Dr. Alsabbagh has reviewed papers for leading IEEE journals and received several academic awards. He is the treasurer in the executive committee of IEEE Montreal Section since 2021.
