In EMTP® version 4.4, we have updated our licensing system. We are moving to a cloud-based licensing, which means we no longer support licenses based on files and hardware (i.e USB Keys and Network Servers). While you can still use these in older versions of EMTP®, please note that we cannot provide support for them. For example, we cannot create new licenses or replace dongle keys.
The process of changing your license type does not entail purchasing a new license. Rather, it invloves upgrading your existing license. This upgrade process is free for clients with active maintenance.
Highlights of the new cloud-based licensing system:
Network licenses will be changed to Floating Cloud
Dongle and node lock are changed to Cloud
Cloud: Internet access is required. After activating EMTP® using the License key, a token is assigned to the user. This token is only released when the user presses the release button in EMTP® Activation Utility on their device. Before that, the token is unavailable for other users, even if the user turns off their device. The main advantage is that the license is always available for the user.
Floating Cloud: Internet access is required. The token access is the same, except that the token is automatically released when EMTP® and its auxiliary programs (ScopeView, Import tools, etc.) are closed. At this point, the token becomes available to other users.
The main benefits of the new licensing system are:
Seamless access to new EMTP® versions without requiring a new license file. It will allow you to provide continuous software upgrades without the user needing to download and install the complete software package each time a new version is released, and without the need to manually migrate your toolboxes and databases.
Elimination of the necessity of managing hardware keys and mitigation of the potential risk of loss, theft, or misplacement. Additionally, alleviating the need for physical transfer between individuals.
Elimination of server setup: you will be able to use your license outside the office, eliminating the need for VPN to access a specific server to use EMTP.
Designation of a license manager who can remotely monitor license usage and deactivate users through a user panel.
