As part of the grid interconnection process, Generation Owners and Transmission Owners (GOs/TOs) need to assess the compliance and adequacy of their EMT models. During these tests, the grid is usually represented by a simple Thevenin equivalent, enabling the evaluation of the model's behavior in a limited set of scenarios and operational conditions.

To comprehensively validate the model, the tests must be performed with a detailed and complete grid model. However, due to confidentiality concerns, System Operators (ISOs/TSOs) are unable to disclose their grid models. As a result, they are compelled to conduct numerous simulations independently.

This process is inefficient and often requires numerous iterations between the ISOs/TSOs and GOs/TOs.

EMT Connection Tool

With the development of the EMT Online Connection Tool, EMTP® expedites and facilitates the GO/TO model validation process. The EMT Online Connection Tool will allow GOs/ TOs to remotely and securely access the point-of-interconnection in the black-boxed inaccessible version of the ISO/TSO network. This network may contain other vendor-specific inverter-based resource models. Simulations take place on a server administrated by the ISO/TSO, located either on-premise or in the cloud.
