PART 2 -The New York state electric grid is transitioning to significantly higher shares of inverter-based resources (IBR) to achieve the clean energy goals of customers and the state. To address this challenge, more detailed whole-system modelling in electromagnetic transient (EMT) domain has recently been used for system-level studies including long-term planning and IBR interconnection studies. Along the same line, an EMTP model of the New York State grid was developed and benchmarked in NYPA’s Advanced Grid Innovation Laboratory for Energy (AGILe). This presentation talks about the developed model and its use cases including interconnection studies for High-Voltage Direct Current (HVDC) and renewables.
